OUR Story
We both grew up living and hunting with several great flushing and retrieving dogs that included English Springer Spaniels, Labrador Retrievers and an English Cocker. Once married we found ourselves with some very nice field bred Golden Retrievers, which we hunted both upland and waterfowl all across Minnesota, Wisconsin and Canada. As our dogs were aging and we started to think about the future, we crossed paths with a couple of Pudelpointers. Our interest in the breed was piqued-we thought 'we really ought to take a look at these dogs for our next potential puppy'.
And so the research began. We spent the next year or so visiting and meeting different Pudelpointers. Eric spent alot of time on the phone and in the field with a multitude of breeders and owners, trying to learn as much as possible about the breed. It didn't take long to realize after seeing the athleticism, attitude, and remarkable personalities of these dogs to realize that this was going to be the breed for us.
We acquired our first Pudelpointer, Czechmate's Full Bore "Gunnar" in 2014. And as they say-"the rest is history". Gunnar opened up a whole new world of gundogs for us. We began training Gunnar as a puppy with the The North American Versatile Hunting Association(NAVHDA). NAVHDA training days and events were instrumental in forming connections and friendships with amazing people and great dogs. The NAVHA instructors were always willing to answer questions(hundreds of questions), guide, advise, and help a young dog with very green handlers.
Eric is currently active in NAVHDA -volunteering at tests and events, running weekly training nights, and working as an apprentice judge. Ingrid is a veterinarian specializing in acupuncture, chiropractic care, and rehabilitation for horses and dogs. Ivy(17) assists with dogs during the training season and with the puppies. She plans to train and run her first Utility Prep Test this year. She enjoys upland and duck hunting. Miles(15) is the go-to-guy when it comes to taking care of the puppies especially during the stage when they find their legs and are a handful to keep up with. He spends the late summer/early fall days after school running along with the dogs in the field to make sure they are conditioned and ready for the upcoming hunting season.
